Inflation has hovered above the Fed\u2019s preferred level for nearly five years, keeping concerns alive inside the central bank even as public focus has shifted toward employment trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite recurring political pressure from President Donald Trump urging lower rates, the minutes suggest internal deliberations remain largely independent of outside influence. Trump\u2019s criticism of the Fed and Chair Jerome Powell intensified late last year, including legal action connected to the Fed\u2019s headquarters renovation, but policymakers\u2019 discussions appear centered on economic data rather than politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rates Likely to Stay on Hold for Now<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At their late January meeting, officials voted to hold the benchmark rate steady after implementing three rate cuts near the end of 2025. Some participants signaled that holding rates steady for an extended period may be appropriate while officials evaluate incoming economic data. President Trump has indicated he plans to nominate Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell when Powell\u2019s term concludes in May.
