Honda listed in&nbsp;<strong>1957<\/strong>, and a spokesperson said this would be the first annual loss since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">U.S. EV Plans Scrapped as Demand Cools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Honda said it expects an EV-related hit of up to&nbsp;<strong>2.5 trillion yen ($15.7 billion)<\/strong>&nbsp;after cancelling&nbsp;<strong>three EV models<\/strong>&nbsp;that had been planned for production in the&nbsp;<strong>United States<\/strong>. Chief executive&nbsp;<strong>Toshihiro Mibe<\/strong>&nbsp;told reporters that EV demand had fallen sharply, making profitability \u201cvery difficult\u201d to sustain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auto analyst&nbsp;<strong>Julie Boote<\/strong>&nbsp;of Pelham Smithers Associates said the scale of the write-down surprised the market, with the larger shock coming from Honda cancelling the U.S. production program rather than simply reducing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement came as automakers reassess EV investment plans amid policy shifts in Washington. The report said the Trump administration has ended government support for EVs, pushing several manufacturers to book large charges and revisit product roadmaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">China Write-Down Adds Pressure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Honda also said it is writing down the value of its&nbsp;<strong>China business<\/strong>, where it has struggled against rivals such as&nbsp;<strong>BYD<\/strong>&nbsp;and other software-driven competitors. The company has faced intensifying competition in China\u2019s EV market, a key battleground where domestic brands have gained ground rapidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the United States, Honda\u2019s U.S.-listed shares fell about&nbsp;<strong>8%<\/strong>&nbsp;in premarket trading following the disclosure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industry-Wide EV Charges Keep Growing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Honda\u2019s charge adds to a broader wave of write-downs as global carmakers scale back EV expectations. The report said the cumulative industry tally has reached roughly&nbsp;<strong>$67 billion<\/strong>, with&nbsp;<strong>General Motors<\/strong>&nbsp;warning of a&nbsp;<strong>$7.6 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;hit,&nbsp;<strong>Stellantis<\/strong>&nbsp;flagging&nbsp;<strong>$25 billion<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Ford<\/strong>&nbsp;pointing to&nbsp;<strong>$19 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;in related impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honda said it intends to strengthen its model lineup and improve cost competitiveness in&nbsp;<strong>India<\/strong>, a market it sees as offering room for expansion.
